FMI marks its 21st Anniversary by promoting environmental preservation and climbing safety.
JAKARTA, INDONESIA, Inti Fakta Nusantara — The Federation of Mountaineering Indonesia (FMI) is preparing a series of activities to commemorate its 21st Anniversary on August 30, 2026.
The anniversary is expected to become a momentum for the FMI family to strengthen its commitment to environmental conservation, climbing safety and the development of mountaineering in Indonesia.

Nationwide Tree Planting Initiative
One of the main activities will be a simultaneous tree planting campaign across Indonesia. FMI executives and community chapters in various regions will take part in the environmental initiative.
The campaign is intended to demonstrate FMI's commitment to maintaining the sustainability of mountain ecosystems.
The main anniversary event will take place at the Hartono Cilandak Marine Corps Barracks in South Jakarta. Mountaineering activists, nature lover communities and representatives of relevant ministries and institutions are expected to attend.
According to Sumardi, Chairman of the 21st Anniversary Committee, the event is supported by Eiger Adventure as the Official Outdoor Gear Partner.
"The 21st Anniversary of FMI is not only a celebration of the organization, but also a momentum to strengthen collaboration between FMI, mountaineering communities, the government, the private sector, and all stakeholders in preserving nature and improving climbing safety standards," Sumardi said.
ZERO WASTE, ZERO ACCIDENT
FMI will also launch the Clean Mountains and Climbing Safety Declaration carrying the tagline ZERO WASTE, ZERO ACCIDENT.
The declaration emphasizes responsible climbing practices, mountain cleanliness, waste reduction and improved safety standards for climbers.
Sumardi said preparedness and vigilance are important because Indonesia is located in the Ring of Fire, where mountain activities may involve various potential risks.
"We must build awareness that climbing safety is a shared responsibility. Because Indonesia lies in the Ring of Fire, preparedness and vigilance must become part of the culture in every mountaineering activity," he added.

Looking Back on 21 Years
The anniversary will also serve as a moment of reflection for FMI to review its 21-year journey and strengthen its future contribution to Indonesian mountaineering.
"This anniversary is an expression of gratitude, reflection, and a momentum for FMI to continue making positive contributions to Indonesian mountaineering," Sumardi said.
He added that FMI wants to contribute not only to climbing activities but also to environmental preservation, safety, education and human resource development.
Through the anniversary, FMI hopes the Zero Waste, Zero Accident spirit can become a collective movement among Indonesian mountaineers.
